Raising money while walking the streets

Woy Woy resident Steven Reid has been walking the streets of the Peninsula raising money for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance.
He has been participating in “Steptember”, a charity event that challenges people to take 10,000 steps a day for 28 days during the month of September.
Mr Reid, who has cerebral palsy himself, said the reason he volunteered was to give back to the Alliance for the help he has received in the past.
“It is very important to highlight [this] cause as while the Cerebral Palsy Alliance receives some government funding, the majority of funds are raised through corporate sponsors and fundraising campaigns like this one,” Mr Reid said.
“I would encourage everyone to compete in Steptember as you can raise funds whilst getting fit for a great cause.”
All funds raised will be used to support people living with cerebral palsy across Australia, providing vital equipment, therapy and services, he said.
Mr Reid also said that he has experienced difficulties in the past finding a job due to his disability, but has since found some great services within the community.
“The NDIS scheme has ensured easier access to equipment and services that make life that little bit more manageable,” Mr Reid said.
“But employers have to be more open [and] the public has to be educated about disabled parking.
“[My employer] has been great to me and very supportive.”
Mr Reid has been working as a bar attendant at the Everglades Country Club at Woy Woy for over a year.
